Millions of Americans have little to no retirement security, and millions more have pensions under attack. In response, SEIU members (in partnership with organizations like AARP and others) are launching a campaign to advance and highlight the importance of retirement security for working families. This is just the beginning of a national conversation.
On Thursday, January 19, several speakers testified before the Senate General Government Consumer and Small Business Protection Committee at the Capitol, including:
Ellen Schultz, author of Retirement Heist and former news editor in the Health & Science section of The Wall Street Journal. Schultz has won numerous awards and in 2001 was awarded the Sidney Hillman Foundation Award. She provided testimony on the ways companies profit from their benefits plans.
Doug Hall, Director of the Economic Analysis and Research Network, previously served as director of operations and research for the Connecticut EARN partner, Connecticut Voices for Children, where he played a leading role in work related to family economic security and state tax and budget issues.
Daniel Rodriquez, an AARP member, volunteer and workforce expert conducts seminars for AARP on “Finding Work @ 50+” throughout Oregon.
Kit Good, an SEIU 503 homecare member, who shared a very personal story about her own retirement security.
