General Council delegates overwhelmingly approve updates to our SEIU 503 Bylaws

On September 10, 2016, in accordance with our SEIU 503 Bylaws, our Board of Directors approved a mail ballot of General Council. Both of these issues, while straight-forward and simple in nature, were important to pass before this body comes together for its 2018 biennial convention.

The proposed changes would:

  1. Update the timeline of Executive Committee elections to coincide with the Board of Director and Statewide Officer election timelines that were approved by the 2014 General Council; and
  2. Makes General Council resolutions formatting uniform and easy to understand.

The questions from the ballot were as follows:

Question 1: Do you support updating Article XII – Executive Committee, which updates the timeline of Executive Committee elections to coincide with the Board of Director and Statewide Officer election timelines that were approved by the 2014 General Council?

 Yes.  A yes vote means you agree to update Article XII of the SEIU Local 503, OPEU Bylaws as presented changing the timeline for the Election of the Executive Committee to align with the Board and Statewide Officer election timeline, after the new Board is installed.

No.  A no vote means you reject the updates and vote to retain the current Article XII of the SEIU Local 503 Bylaws.

Question 1 RESULTS:
131 Yes – 98.5%
2 No – 1.5%


 Question 2: Do you support updating Article IX – The General Council, of the SEIU Local 503, OPEU Bylaws which makes General Council resolutions’ formatting uniform and easy to understand?

Yes.  A yes vote means you agree to update Article IX of the SEIU Local 503, OPEU Bylaws as presented changing the way proposed deletions in existing Bylaws language are shown in General Council Resolutions from brackets to strikethroughs.

No.  A no vote means you reject the updates and vote to retain the current Article IX of the SEIU Local 503 Bylaws.

Question 2 RESULTS:
130 Yes – 97.8%
3 No – 2.2%
