Child Care Providers Go to the Governor

The SEIU Child Care bargaining team met with management for the fifth round of bargaining.
After management revealed that the 5,000 child care providers who earn $2.12 an hour do not deserve a raise, we decided to go directly to the Governor and ask him to support our struggle.

At the Capitol, members of the bargainging team were joined by workers from other state agencies to deliver our message. During the meeting, Chris Warner was presented with a card that included pictures and stories of what it's like to care for low income children with such low wages and no benefits.

Child Care Providers met with State officials to confer on issues affecting children, parents and caregivers.

Many of the child care providers spoke about the struggles they face every day to provide quality care for the kids in their care.

When asked how many of them actually receive co-payments from their parents, only one raised her hand.

The others are going without the additional income from the co-pay and working for even less.
