Training Becomes Reality

March 3, 2006: Home care workers across Oregon will finally have an opportunity that — until now — has eluded them. Through the collective bargaining process, our home care members negotiated a training fund that will provide much needed and long sought after training opportunities for caregivers.

"The agreement we reached with the Oregon Home Care Commission to do training is just one improvement we sought to improve quality of care for our clients," explains Francie Macleod, a caregiver from Port Orford.

TRIPS and KIPS

Taking Responsibility in Personal Safety (TRIPS) and Keeping It Professional (KIPS) trainings have been scheduled in various locations across the state January through April.

TRIPS focuses on preventing injuries from slips, trips and falls.

KIPS will assist with record keeping, writing care notes, confidentiality and setting professional boundaries.

The Oregon Home Care Commission will be notifying home care workers in the area of upcoming trainings by mail, including when and where the trainings will be held, as well as registration information. Active Homecare workers will be paid for 3.5 hours for attending this training. Registration deadline is three days prior to a training. Space is limited.
