Nov 29, 2007 - On Tues, Nov 27, 2007 the 42 workers at Menlo Park, a nursing home in Portland, joined SEIU Local 503.
This facility, owned by Eagle Healthcare, was organized through a card check agreement that is part of our overall "Alliance Agreement" with six Oregon nursing home operators.

Over 75% of the workers signed cards, and State Senator Rod Monroe certified our majority status at the facility on Tuesday.
Menlo Park workers hope to address the problem of low pay — lower at Menlo Park than at already unionized homes in the Portland area — and because they were excited by the work that SEIU members have done to address the problem of chronic short staffing in nursing homes.
Like all of our nursing home members, they are looking forward to April, when the first of two improvements we have won in mandatory minimum staffing levels for certified nurses aides goes into effect statewide.
