Members Elect 4 Statewide Officers

Members of SEIU 503 have reelected Executive Director Leslie Frane and Vice President Sonya Reichwein and elected Linda Burgin as President and Barbara Casey as Secretary-Treasurer to two-year terms in mail balloting that concluded October 14. All four were candidates in contested elections.

        President Linda Burgin

Burgin has served as SEIU 503 Secretary-Treasurer since 2004. As President she will preside at General Council and meetings of the Board and its Executive Committee, set the Board agenda, coordinate activities of Board directors, appoint committees, and serve as chief spokesperson for the union. She will be on leave from her position in the State Department of Education to work full-time on union affairs during her term.


  Sonya Reisize
   Vice Pres. Sonya Reichwein

Reichwein, who will begin her second term, is the former president of 735, the sub-local representing 503 employees in the State Division of Drivers and Motor Vehicles. As Vice President of the union, she performs the duties of the President in the President’s absence and is first in line of succession, chairs the Rules Committee and serves on the Executive and Finance Committees.

Secretary-Treasurer Barbara  Casey


Casey, who is employed at the State Department of Human Services, is statewide chair of CAPE, SEIU 503’s political arm, and has served on the Board and its Executive Committee for four years. As Secretary-Treasurer, she will keep a record of General Council, Board and Executive Committee meetings; chair the Finance Committee, maintain the union’s financial accounts and conduct an annual fiscal review.

Executive Director Leslie Frane

Frane has served as the union’s chief executive

officer for six years. Among other duties as

Executive Director, she supervises staff activities

and budgetary matters, serves on bargaining teams

and represents SEIU in the international union and

the community. Frane is an SEIU International Vice

President and will be SEIU’s chief negotiator in

forthcoming contract negotiations with

the state.
