This January we can VOTE YES to protect services, safeguard jobs and make sure that corporations and the richest Oregonians pay their fair share.

66 and 67 protect seniors, children, and all Oregonians. The measures provide millions of dollars to keep schools open, keep children safe, and keep seniors in their homes. Without the measures the most vulnerable would suffer even more during this recession.

66 and 67 protect jobs. All state-funded services faced drastic cuts this year. Thousands of public workers, care providers and others in such areas as health, education and public safety were on the line. To avoid massive layoffs and draconian cuts legislators passed a tax fairness package that protects jobs and services while asking corporations and the richest Oregonians to pay their fair share. Measures 66 and 67 saved thousands of jobs for SEIU members.

66 and 67 make corporations and the richest Oregonians pay their fair share. Two out of every three corporations pay just $10 a year in tax. Measure 67 increases the corporate minimum tax — which has not been changed since 1931 — to $150. Measure 66 will make sure that richest Oregonians, households over $250,000, will pay their fair share during this recession.

We have sacrificed during this recession — less training, furlough days, layoffs, fewer hours, increasing workloads, salary freezes. Isn’t it time — past time — for corporations and the rich to share in that sacrifice and pay their fair share?
