A Waste in Wilsonville?
Member Urges New Look at Privatized Plant
In the aftermath of what might be the first of many rate increases, a member of SEIU Local 503 is urging the City of Wilsonville to re-examine its decision to privatize the construction and operation of a new wastewater treatment plant.
“Changed economic times call for close scrutiny of our precious municipal resources,” Cindy Beckett Kehoe wrote in a
detailed op ed column in the Wilsonville Spokesman. “It is not too late for Wilsonville’s leadership to take another look at this. The city and council have an obligation to the citizens they serve to face up to the possibility that what looked like the best thing for our city in 2008 is today worthy of a second look.”
In a
letter to the paper, one city resident agreed.
“My family and I don’t know Cindy Kehoe, who exposed the Wilsonville City government’s flawed decision to have a new waste water plant built and operated by a for-profit corporation,” Klaus Gibson wrote.”We want to think her for her bravery and courage."
