Victory at City of Tigard

Tigard members preserve seniority language

SEIU Local 503 members at the City of Tigard settled a new contract on May 27.

Tigard members fought back a proposal that would have eliminated all bumping. In a big victory for fairness, they were able to preserve current bumping by seniority language.

They won COLAs based on inflation, with a floor of zero and a ceiling of 4%, and preserved salary steps, so members will still get raises even if there is no inflation.

They preserved health care, built some groundwork for establishing a labor/management committee and won new employee orientation rights.

Congratulations to all Tigard members, and to bargaining team members Carla Staedter, Janet Weber, Albert Shields, Paul Izatt, Christine Darnell, Terri Smith, Kirt Bowers, and Jill Byers.
