Take Action Now! Protect critical public services

…and make big corporations pay their fair share

This is everyone's fight!
There is a record and growing demand for public services in the face of a $4 billion shortfall between what would be required to find current service levels in 2009-11 and the revenue the state anticipates it will have.

* Children are our future and seniors got us here, yet these groups bear the brunt of cuts to human services and education.

* We must improve a state tax system that allows us to bounce from a biennium with a billion dollar kicker to one a $4 billion-dollar shortfall.

* Wealthy Oregonians and profitable corporations have never paid their fair share for state services. In this climate, that has to change.

* "Shared sacrifice" does not mean "you share and we'll sacrifice." All Oregonians, especially those most able to pay, must do their part.

Call your legislators at 1.800.332.2313 or e-mail them here in support of House Bill 3405. HB 3405 is the Corporate Tax Fairness Act. It raises the $10 corporate minimum income tax for the first time since 1931. HB 3405 raises the corporate minimum on a sliding scale based on size starting at $150 for small business. HB 3405 increases corporate tax rates on bigger corporations.

HB 3405 shares the sacrifice so that those who are getting ahead in today's economy can help pay for services like homecare for seniors, health care, education, and public safety.

If we are going to get through this economic crisis, then government will need to take big steps to create jobs, provide services like health care and senior care, and keep schools open. Pulling out of the recession and moving the state forward is a shared responsibility between people, businesses, and government. HB 3405 allows the state to come up with the funds needed to draw down federal matching funds for vital public services like homecare for seniors and health care for all Oregonians. HB 3405 means that Oregonians who have been victimized by the economic downturn will be less likely to get the added hit of being denied services.
