Central Table: Apr 17, 2007

At bargaining April 17, we reached agreement on a couple articles.

We made it easier for essential workers who are unable to work due to inclement weather to use paid leave to protect  holiday pay and to use flex time if the weather makes them late.

We also won language that will provide more training for both management and union members on statewide labor/management committees, and we gained a commitment that this training will be on paid work time.

Selectives Presentation

We continued selective presentations in the afternoon, including a presentation from food service workers, who are among the working poor of state employees.

They did a compelling presentation, outlining the challenge of supporting themselves and their families on as little as $1465 a month, and asking management to do the right thing and approve their selective.

Next Session

Our next bargaining session is Tues, Apr 24, when we will hear the selective presentations for office worker classifications.

Office Workers' Selectives/Rally

We are having a rally that afternoon to support our proposal for a living wage for all state workers outside of bargaining.

The rally will begin at 4:00 at SEIU Salem headquarters - 1730 Commercial St. Please join us if you can!
