July 23, 2007 - Despite late-hour bargaining in search of a settlement, in two days of mediation this week we were unable to reach agreement with OUS management over our remaining issues.
Michael Ellis, from Portland State University, reports on progress – or lack of – for WOU members at noon July 18.

The recent DAS/OUS settlement over
cost of living adjustments and health insurance coverage
created an opportunity to reach a quick settlement on the July 18 and 19 over other OUS-specific issues. But, it was not to be!
We were unable to make sufficient progress on the needs of OUS classified workers to settle for what was on the table.
Our colleagues and friends in DAS state employment made gains inseveral areas in which OUS is currently proposing no improvements, andseveral other issues have been long-standing problems we've beenseeking to improvement on for years.
Without these met, we feel we must keep pushing for what's fair.

You can join in the push for fairness. We return to mediation July 26
. Give your supervisor, your department director, or any manager the message that you expect a reasonable proposal from their team next week.
Join other union members in making your voice heard.
Offer your perspective on any or all of the remaining issues. Look for opportunities on your campus to promote a fair contract resolution.
Contact your Union Steward, Officers or Organizer if you need help in developing and delivering your message.
